CAPTURING THE MAGIC
The first time I saw this ad was at the movie theatre just last week in KLCC in Kuala Lumpur. Vuiton new first 90 sec corporate brand commercial received more applauses than the movie I went to see at the theatres, which is surprising considering Malaysian never applauses for any film. Although it may not be clear to some what this ad has to do with LV bags, I have to say that it was elegantly filmed, in its entire art form. The images and music combined, created an atmosphere of escape as the camera roved almost dreamily over landscapes and faces. It’s no wonder that the director Bruno Aveillan, won the Gold Clio Award 2008 for "Best Cinematography". I must say that I am surprisingly proud to be French.
This clip is just everything one imagines, as it evokes travel as a discovery of the world and a process of self-discovery, where LV will be beside you wherever you go. I loved the fact that the tight up-close shots and far shots are simple and brings your attention to the person, place and the brilliant colors that depict the journey through the little things that define them. Like standing in a crowd, looking through a window or noticing your surroundings. And for those who are fans of Diarios de Motocicleta (The Motorcycle Diaries 2004) and Babel (2006), you will surely recognize the music of the Oscar winner, Gustavo Santaolalla.
Some Interesting Facts: This film relates to the journey that Louis Vuitton made himself from his hometown of Jura in Fance to Paris. It was a 400kilometer journey on foot. Throughout that journey he became an apprentice "layetier" to prominent households. Then he developed expert knowledge on what makes a good travelling bag and started creating his own luggage and the rest is history.
